Dates for your diary

Saddleworth Rotarians celebrated Halloween in an appropriate manner.

The last Wednesday of the month sees the club meet on an evening, with their spouses, and in October they were entertained by two Rotarians from the Rotary Club of Holmfirth (District 1040) giving a presentation on 'Executions'

Gary Ewart, ably assisted by Mark Antrobus, spared no gory details in describing hangings and beheading, going through the history of the subject and the characteristics of the various executioners throughout the ages.

This included demonstrations of various aspects. All this whilst keeping the subject entertaining and amusing.

At one point Mark demonstrated a hanging, with a 'volunteer' from our club. Fortunately our treasurer wasn't able to be present on the evening, as this would possibly have given him ideas of how to extract club dues from defaulters.

It should be said that the victim, Past President Bill Bussey, was reprieved at the last moment, as we discovered he had paid up on the due date.

All in all, an enjoyable evening, at the end of which Gary sold copies of his book on executions, a portion of the price being donated to Rotary charities.
